In future you don’t do any changes without asking me first.
[Letter: Bhargava, May 29,1976]

Do not try to change anything without my permission.
[Letter to Radhavallabha, Aug 26, 1976]

The next printing should be again to the original way.

Hare Krishna. All glories to His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada.

As we continue to release more and more articles on some horrendous changes in the 10 volume set, we found another unauthorized change where the editors changed the translation of BG 7.19 in the purport of SB 4.24.74.

Who authorized these editors to change the translation that was taken from 1972 Bhagavad Gita As It Is?

This change was first found in the 1978 edition of 4th canto volume 3 and is also found in the 10 volume set whose pictures are displayed below. So how is this pre-1977 if they are taking the unauthorized 1978 version? This cheating must be exposed.

First, what has changed? Let us analyze that. The purport of the verse 4.24.74 contains a reference to BG 7.19 and it contains a translation of the same. The original 1974 print has the translation correctly taken from the BG 1972 Macmillan edition.

Left side: 1974 original version  Right side: 1978 revised content from 10 volume set

Original translation (BG 7.19 – 1972): After many births and deaths, he who is actually in knowledge surrenders unto Me, knowing Me to be the cause of all causes and all that is. Such a great soul is very rare. (Same taken in 1974 SB 4th Canto)

Unauthorized editors’ invented translation in 1978 SB for BG 7.19: “After many, many births and deaths, a wise man surrenders unto Me, knowing very well that I, Vāsudeva, am everything. Such a great soul is very rare.” (Found in 10 volume SB, so how is this “original way”???)

See the difference in the translation.

1974 first print (SB 4.24.74, page 1127): (Same translation as BG 1972)

10 volume set picture (4.24.74): (Same as 1978 changed version that is shown after this, page 1105)

1978 Unauthorized print(4.24.74, page 414): (Notice the change towards the end of the page)
